En collaboration avec l'Hôpital Universitaire des Enfants Reine Fabiola (ULB), différents projets de microbiologie médicale moléculaire sur les Streptococci pathogènes et commensaux sont développés au laboratoire. Les approches combinées de microbiologie clinique (typage moléculaire, identification des gènes, résistance aux antibiotiques et de virulence) et de génétique bactérienne sont poursuivies afin de mieux comprendre l'équilibre complexe entre pathogénicité et commensalisme et les interactions hôte-pathogènes. [In collaboration with Anne Vergison, MD (Department of Paediatric Infectious Diseases Epidemiology and Infection Control Unit) at the Hôpital Universitaire des Enfants Reine Fabiola (ULB), several applied research projects on clinical and commensal Streptococci (i.e. Group A Streptococci and Pneumococci) are in progress in the Bacterial Genetics and Physiology lab. The combination of clinical microbiology (molecular typing, determination of antibiotic resistance and virulence genes) and bacterial genetics approaches will help us to better understand the complex equilibrium between commensalism and pathogenicity and the host-pathogen interactions.]
