Help Ukraine - You are Ukrainian, Russian, Belarusian or under international protection

ULB offers an emergency assistance to members of the academic community fleeing Ukraine and being of Ukrainian nationality or benefiting from international protection, as well as to Russian and Belarusian opponents of the war who are in danger.

This emergency help is offered to students, (post)doctoral students, academics or administrative staff of the universities who have no country of origin in which to take refuge and who can no longer study or work in their country of origin because of the war in Ukraine.

This page is under development, we will update this information regularly.

Good to know
It is not possible to simply "switch" from a Ukrainian university to a Belgian university. There are many academic issues that need to be addressed, such as equivalences and credit transfer. There is also the language barrier: we are a French-speaking university and most of our courses are taught in French, with only a limited number of master's programmes being entirely in English.

Will I be eligible for social and financial assistance?

Thanks to your temporary protection status, you are entitled to apply for support from the social services in your municipality and to be registered for compulsory health insurance. More information is available here.
Once your application is accepted by ULB, your personal situation will be analysed by our services. Subsequently, in a limited number of cases, additional assistance may be offered to you by our social service.

Will I be able to access housing?

Thanks to your temporary protection status, you are entitled to access the housing offers provided by the municipalities. In the event no accommodation is available, if your application is accepted by ULB, our services will endeavour to put you in touch with members of our university community offering temporary accommodation solutions.
