Programme objectives
This program is aimed at students who wish to discover several orientations in Sciences before making their choice. It provides unconditional access to second year programs in Biology, Chemistry, Geology and Bioengineering. It also gives access to the second year of the Bachelor in Geography with a potential complementary program established by the Jury and of maximum 15 ECTS.
Teaching team and methods
The methods used to teach the various courses vary between ex cathedra lectures, exercises, practical work, projects, personal works.
Programme's added value
The specificity of this program is to allow students at the end of the block 1, to choose between several fields: Biology, Chemistry, Bioengineering, Geology and Geography. The student will be able to benefit from more formalized courses in each field and will therefore acquire an additional opening to those of each of the specialized orientations.
The ULB is the only complete university located in the capital of Europe. Almost one third of the students are foreigners, it therefore enjoys a remarkable cultural mix, which is a great source of wealth, making the university naturally internationally open.
Most lessons will be supplemented with exercise sessions and laboratory classes, which will be supervised by academic and science staff, and individual supervised coursework.
You have at your disposal :
-
laboratories
-
the university libraries
Individual guidance for chemistry, physics and mathematics with access to the following : fully equipped and supervised working room, library, additional exercises, access to IT resources, standard laboratory …

Programme
In the program described below, the courses of the first quarter or semester) are common to all students, they cover Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and an introduction to Earth Sciences. The courses of the second semester are modulated in four orientations, one for students who plan to attend Bioengineers studies or Biology (group A), another for students who intend to study Chemistry (Group B), another for students who intend to study Geology (group C) and a fourth one for students who intend to study Geography (Group D). It is only at the end of the first quarter that students have to choose their orientation
The program includes more than 75% of mandatory lessons, exercises, practical work, etc, … and 25% of courses determined by the chosen orientation

Prospects
Depending on the orientation chosen after the polyvalent block 1 in Sciences, students will obviously find the same opportunities as students that have taken part to the block 1 of the specialized fields, while having been able to prove that they are capable of passing successfully all the more formalized courses in each of the core areas.
