The BePAPER project studies works on paper - drawings, watercolours, collages and assemblages - by the Belgian avant-garde between 1918 and 1950.

The BePAPER project studies works on paper - drawings, watercolours, collages and assemblages - by the Belgian avant-garde between 1918 and 1950, in other words until the dawn of CoBrA and the rise of the "neo-avant-gardes".

The project is based on the "modern art works on paper" collection of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. It aims to understand why these artists turned their attention to paper during the inter-war period.

It also contributes to a better definition of the collection categorised as "modern works on paper".
