ULB helps its students throughout the year, offering various types of aid: one-time financial support or scholarships, reduced fees, student jobs, etc.

Please follow the procedures outlined in the ‘useful documents’ section in order to apply for financial aid or reduced registration fees. You can already start putting your application together with us.

Please note that the SWO grants aid only to complete applications that meet financial and academic criteria, and that have been analysed by a social worker.

The ULB Student Social Service also manages various endowed funds. Each fund is dedicated to a purpose set out by the donors who have bequeathed their money to the ULB. The amount of aid will be determined according to the needs of the student and the funds available.

ULB Sports card discount

The ULB Sports card grants access, for the entire year, to all activities listed in the sports programme, whether on the Solbosch, Erasme, or Charleroi campuses or at the Forêt de Soignes Sports centre (each location has its specific calendar). For the 2020–2021 academic year, students receiving financial aid from the SWO may purchase the ULB Sports card at a discount.

Priority access to ULB housing

Students who met the criteria for a reduction in registration fees in 2021-2022 (scholarship holder rate, intermediary rate, or social rate) are eligible for priority access to ULB housing in 2020–2021.

Priority access shall only be granted to students who have requested it from the SWO. This is separate from the application for student housing sent to the ULB Housing Office. The documentation required must be e-mailed to the SWO ( by Friday, 30 April 2021 at the latest. Applications for priority access to student housing may be sent by any student considering enrolling at ULB for the 2021–2022 academic year.

Prep courses

All students will receive a certificate allowing them to benefit from the student rate for meals taken at lunchtime in the university restaurants during the preparatory courses.

Students living outside the Brussels-Capital Region can apply, under certain financial conditions, for a financial contribution to their expenses: Transport (SNCB, STIB, TEC, De Lijn) Rent reduction if ULB accommodation.

Other services are offered to ULB students: social grocery, medical service, psychological support, family planning, Repair Café, and external partners.

Student Welfare Office

The Student Welfare Office (SWO) is there for you during the entire academic year. It will lend you an ear and provide information about your rights, pointing you to the appropriate contacts and supporting you through your interactions with entities outside ULB.

It is open to all students and can provide support:

  • throughout their studies, to help them organize their student life
  • for one-time requests (at any point in the student’s university career), if they encounter temporary difficulties or an unplanned situation.


The Student Welfare Office has a wide variety of specific information that students may leverage to best organize their life during their studies. The SWO has a number of missions:
