ULB Gets Involved

ULB social responsibility is a fundamental part of the University’s mission. To strengthen this role, the non-profit association ULB Engagée was established, promoting ULB civic engagement and solidarity actions. The association develops its own initiatives while also supporting projects launched or endorsed by ULB, reflecting the university’s strong commitment to activism and community values.

As part of its commitment to ULB social responsibility and civic engagement, the University has established a Solidarity Fund to support researchers who are unable to continue their work in their home countries. This initiative reflects ULB solidarity actions by offering protection and opportunities to scholars facing threats due to their scientific research or the opinions they have openly expressed.

The Welcome Desk for Refugees welcomes and accompanies all students individually in all their procedures, before, during and after registration at ULB.

In line with ULB civic engagement, a group of volunteers from the Université libre de Bruxelles, together with the non-profit Conseil Jeunesse Développement (Council of Youth Development), organises activities and training sessions to challenge common biases about migration and promote inclusive living. These initiatives highlight ULB solidarity actions and the university’s commitment to activism and values.

For over 30 years, the Schola ULB Tutoring Programme has been mobilising student volunteers and training them to provide regular tutoring to primary and secondary school pupils in the Brussels-Capital Region. A project by young people for young people, with a clear objective: success for all!

ULB is taking part in a major project to develop schools with active teaching methods in the north-west of Brussels. The aim is to offer high-quality teaching, excellence and equal opportunities for every pupil.

ULB strongly believes that sustainability is a must and a challenge for a globalised world; this is why it has made a number of commitments towards becoming a sustainable university in the future, taking into account current environmental, social, and economic issues.

ULB promotes access to healthcare for its community, with a number of dedicated services.
The BUH (Brussels University Hospital), a reference centre at an international level, provides general, oncological and paediatric care of the very highest quality.

Diversity is a constant struggle. Our University’s challenge is to make sure that the progress it makes through its many initiatives persists into the future.

The Université libre de Bruxelles has developed a vision of quality based on shared values and attitudes; it promotes a culture in which its activities and missions must be suited to the institution’s purposes, adapt to change, and undergo constant improvement.

ULB is aware of the many evolutions occurring in the world; the University is thinking about its future, and has developed a strategic plan. The year 2030 was chosen as the target for this collective reflection process.
