Compact optical rulers based on fiber technology

The project ‘PocketLight’ aims to make the production of optical rulers more simple and affordable. Optical rulers allow to measure distance and time with high accuracy, but are currently very expensive and complex tools to produce.

Francesco De Lucia will join François Leo’s and March Haelterman’s team. He will use specific optical fibres (Periodically poled silica fibres, PPSFs) to implement compact all-fibre resonators (CAFRs). Such compact device could democratize the use of optical rulers in many disciplines, such as use in GPS or high-precision clocks.

End of the project: 31-08-2022
