Multimodality in speech perception

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

Teaching in two parts.

Part of Ms Colin (12h): objectives: understand how speech sounds are encoded and represented at all levels of the typical auditory nervous system as well as in atypical situations (noise, learning disorders, ...) and understand the effects remediation.

Part of Ms Charlier (24h): objectives: integrate a multifactorial understanding of the perception of speech, beyond the perception of the sound signal of speech.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The courses is half ex-cathaedra and half based on clinical vignettes, films (+ part of a MOOC on the cognitive neurosciences of audition), scientific documents in order to nourish reflection and interactions among the students.

Contribution to the teaching profile

Learn to progress in the complexity of a scientific reasoning based on an analysis of the literature, going beyond the obvious, with a connection of knowledge already discussed in previous years. By mixing and expanding the concepts covered in the Bac and Master courses, by learning to deepen them, while maintaining the objective of a new appropriation of the concept of speech perception in multimodal form. The development of a connection between notions, knowledge, acquired knowledge, reflections, therapeutic experiences, clinical observations and scientific contributions, in the form of reflective back and forths, ultimately constitutes the objective of this part of the course.
