Systematic study of vocabulary through newspaper articles, essays and different media

Development of oral proficiency through listening comprehension exercises;

Development of written proficiency through reading comprehension, writing, and text synthesis exercises.

Upon completion of this course, students will demonstrate receptive and productive skills at the B2–C1 level.
Students will be expected to:

• Understand written and/or oral texts in German;
• Express themselves both orally and in writing, with correct use of syntax and grammar;
• Recognize, explain, and contextualize cultural references addressed in the course;
• Write texts employing appropriate vocabulary, with sound grammatical control and orthography.

Required and corequired courses

Vocabulary and grammar exercises; listening and reading comprehension; exercises in oral expression. Systematic training in writing (composition, synthesis, editing).

Continuous assessment: mandatory regular and active participation, written tests and assignments throughout the year.
Written examination: May/June session

Mark calculation method (including weighting of intermediary marks)

• Continuous assessment: 50% of the final grade (25% in the first semester, 25% in the second semester)
• Written examination: 50% (May/June session)

Students whose native language is German may request the course instructor before the end of September to receive exercises adapted to their level in order to obtain the credits allocated for continuous evaluation.

Students who go on an Erasmus exchange during the first semester can make up for this part of the grade during the second session.

Each component of the course unit is compulsory and must be assessed. A minimum passing grade of 10/20 is required for each component. If a student fails to present one of the components, or fails one of them, they will be assigned a failing mark of 05/20 for the entire course unit.

Students who do not participate in the written tests and assignments throughout the year (continuous evaluation ), or fail them, will be required to submit them or retake them during the second exam session. Students who do not attend the written exam, or who fail that component, will be required to retake the written exam in the second exam session. Components with grades higher than 10/20 do not need to be retaken; only the failed component must be reassessed.
