Students will obtain knowledge on : • history of Slovene language and history of Slovenia• priod of Romanticism (France Prešeren, Jernej Kopitar …)• period of Realism (Ivan Tavčar)• The Slovenian «moderna» and fin de sieclè : prose (Ivan Cankar)• The Slovenian « moderna » and fin de siecle : poetry (Josip Murn Aleksandrov, Oton Župančič)• 1st half of 20th century (Srečko Kosovel, Ciril Kosmač, Vladimir Bartol)• 2nd half of 20th century – poetry (Ivan Minatti, Tomaž Šalamun …)• 2nd half of 20th century – prose (Boris Pahor, Vitomil Zupan, Lojze Kovačič, Drago Jančar …)• the modern, contemporary slovene literature of 21st century (Goran Vojnović, Maja Haderlap, Mojca Kumerdej, Bronja Žakelj, Anja Golob ...)
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

To learn about classical as well as contemporary Slovene literature and its role in modern society • To understand the specificities of contemporary Slovene literary language • To learn to analyse and interpret literary works • Extension and consolidation of vocabulary and grammar structures
