Course content

The teaching unit consists of two parts: - part "Indo-European Languages": introduction to two different Indo-European languages (S. Vanséveren and E. Dupraz). - part "Comparative Grammar": introduction to the comparative grammar of Indo-European languages (S. Vanséveren).

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

The course aims to give elements of comparison with other Indo-European languages (Greek, Latin). It aims to introduce the principles and methods of comparative grammar of Indo-European languages. At the end of this course, the student is able to place, in a general way, Ancient Greek and Latin among the Indo-European languages, and to isolate their specific characteristics. The course also includes an introduction to other Indo-European languages.

(To compare different linguistic systems).

Teaching methods and learning activities

Languages: reading, discussion and translation of texts and inscriptions. The method is essentially interactive. For the "Hittite language" part, the preparation of texts is required, the evaluation is continuous. Comparative grammar: course ex cathedra.

Contribution to the teaching profile
