Course content

Reading and commentary of mediaeval works from a literary and linguistic perspective, with partiicular attention to lexical and stylistic aspects. An important portion of the course is devoted to mediaeval textuality (manuscript diffusion and "variance") and to modern theory and praxis of editing.

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

Following FRAN-B-215, this course seeks to consolidate and deepen students' knowledge of mediaeval French language and literature. At the end of the semester, students will be able to translate and analyze medieval works (linguistic, literary, stylistic analyses), as well as to explicate problems of the transmission and editing of mediaeval texts.
