Course content

Excursion and thematic fieldwork in an european city.

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

1. Learning to observe/identify/illustrate ‘in the field’ the processes and dynamics that we study in various courses of the programme
2. To be able to illustrate and analyse one of these processes through literature and fieldwork

Teaching methods and learning activities

Preparation work before before the excursion - oral presentation :
Team and theme/concept: Chose a theme/concept and select a classmate to work with.
Research question : Chose a research question/angle. Turn the theme/concept into topic/case
study
 Research path : Explain your path using scientific and grey literature. Be synthetic but also
critical.
Two visits with material dimension : propose two visits including materials/infrastructures
(on-site visit) and conduct interviews/dialogues (podcasts are allowed). Just propose them, don’t make them or contact them!
•Reflexivity : take a critical look at your work (reflexivity) and document it
During the excursion (report in fomr of blogpost) :
• Autonomous fieldwork time (one and a half day, complementing organized visits)
• Select/create the media that will illustrate your blog post;
• Write the post: two A4 pages discussing the theme/concept and how it is translated in the Marseilles’ context.
