Course content

Discussion and practice of spoken German. By watching films, television series, and documentaries, reading texts, and listening to and analyzing contemporary songs, students will develop their ability to discuss a variety of topics

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

This course offers an in-depth study of spoken German. Based on films, TV series, literary texts, and contemporary songs, students will improve their command of spoken German through discussions and oral presentations. Students will analyse communicative situations, spoken language, and communication models. Discussions and exercises will simultaneously reinforce grammatical knowledge and enrich vocabulary.

Teaching methods and learning activities

The course is centred on the practice of spoken German through presentations and discussions, which makes student attendance essential. Students are expected to prepare their contributions in advance by reading assigned texts, watching the indicated films, and listening to the proposed songs.

  • Oral presentations during lectures and exercise sessions.
  • Continuous evaluation based on active participation in presentations and discussions (lectures and exercises), preparation of class contributions, exercises, and written tests.

Mark calculation method (including weighting of intermediary marks)

The final grade is composed of participation in lectures and oral presentations during both lectures and exercises:

  • Continuous evaluation of class participation (lectures and exercises): 40%
  • Oral presentations in the course (theory, exercises): 40%
  • Oral examination based on materials discussed in lectures: 20%

Each component of the course unit is compulsory and must be assessed. Students who do not participate in the tests and assignments during the semester (continuous evaluation), or who fail this component, will be required to (re)do them in the second exam session. If no oral grades have been obtained during the year, an oral examination will be required in the second exam session. Students who do not attend the oral examination, or who fail that component, will be required to retake it in the resit session.
