Course content

In the historical context of the Modern Times and by privileging the directly accessible architectural works, the course aims to exert an approach of analysis and comprehension of the architectural work placed in its historical, artistic, technical and urbanistic context, in insisting on the specificities of this mode of creation.

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)

The urban ensemble made up of the buildings bordering the Grand-Place in Brussels is a world heritage jewel in the strict sense of the term since it has been inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage list since 1998 and managed as such. giving rise to multidisciplinary studies, restoration sites and valorisation initiatives.The course will address this exceptional heritage in its architectural dimension, given in the complex context of the city of which it constitutes one of the key places, from its origin until our days. It will provide students with the latest advances in the study of its constituent elements.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Lectures with projections and visits of buildings.

Contribution to the teaching profile

Understand and master specialized concepts in the field; acquire a culture of interdisciplinary type; show curiosity and intellectual openness; to measure the complexity of the problem; to be able to make oneself the state of the question, with a spirit of synthesis and critical thinking, in a clear and constructed discourse; demonstrate the ability to apply acquired knowledge and methods of analysis.
