    Presentation

    The Master in Translation is specifically designed to train professional translators; as such, it allows students to choose among several language combinations and types of translation that professional translators work with or are confronted to on the job market.

    For both of our Master programmes, students are required to write a dissertation on which they will be graded. In addition to enabling the academic staff to assess the students’ writing, critical thinking, and summarising skills, the dissertation also serves as a means to check whether they have mastered the professional skills acquired throughout the programme.

    During the Master programme, future graduates develop their autonomy and are exposed to relevant subjects through the topics or assignments covered in general knowledge lectures, translation workshops, and the work placement.

    Students in the Master in Translation can choose from a number of languages, and pick one of four focuses:

    • Multidisciplinary translation

    • Translation and international relations

    • Translation and the language industry

    • Literary translation

    Translation classes are given by professional translators and experts, who introduce students to these fields of speciality in order to help them successfully complete the programme and be ready for the job market.

    After completing the programme, graduates will not only be qualified to work as translators, but they will also be able to use their intercultural abilities and writing skills in a number of other professional contexts.

    Professional translators and experts are in charge of teaching translation classes and introducing students to theSE fields of specialty in order to help students to successfully complete the programme and prepare them for the job market.

    Upon completion of the programme, our graduates will not only be qualified to work as translators but will also be able to use the intercultural competences and writing skills acquired in a number of other professional contexts.

    Access conditions

    Programme

    The programme is designed to enable students not only to gain thorough knowledge of the two foreign languages they will have chosen to work from, but also to acquire the skills needed to work as translators in a number of professional environments. To this end, it also gives students opportunities to specialise in various fields and to learn how to use the tools specific to the translator’s trade.

    Translation classes are given to small groups, with students producing translations at home that are then workshopped in class. Students are also required to complete a 12-week work placement at a company or in a national or international organisation.

    Prospects

    Depending on the speciality chosen for their studies, graduates can access a number of professions related to translation. In addition to employment opportunities in areas such as literary, technical, scientific, financial, legal, or multimedia translation (localisation, website translation, video game localisation, subtitling, subtitling for the hard of hearing, surtitling), our translators are also able to manage projects or work in the field of terminology.

    Graduates from this programme can work in-house, or as freelancers, in all the areas mentioned above.
