Course content

Part 1: Biological anthropology.
Evolution of the human lineage. Uniqueness and diversity of current human populations. Basic biology notions to understand these concepts: mechanisms involved in the processes of evolution, adaptation, and population variability. Discussion on the place of Homo sapiens within the living world. Elements of bioethics.

Part 2: Biology of animal societies.
Comparative study of social organisation in insects and mammals.

  • Describe human biological diversity across time and space.
  • Situate humans within the living world.
  • Compare the social organization of different species to that of humans.
