A revealed preference analysis of the impact of marriage market dynamics on household decisions

Family economics is an exciting and growing field in economics, which allows for addressing a variety of relevant questions on what happens within households. For example, what is the impact on household decisions of the rise in female education during the last decades? These decisions are the result of an interaction process between the household members, which depends on the individuals’ preferences, their bargaining positions and their financial and time constraints.
In this project, researchers will investigate the effects of marriage market dynamics on intra-household decision making. They will use methods based on the theory of revealed preference, which allow them to analyse household behavior in a robust and empirically meaningful manner. With these results, researchers will have the opportunity to analyse the impact on individual well-being of, for example, gender norms, physical attractiveness, education and migration decisions, etc.
