Course content

Polish literature of the 19th and 20th centuries. 

Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)


To acquire knowledge of the specificities of Polish literature through the centuries and its role in the transformation of Polish society. To strengthen the visibility of the links between literature and historical and societal factors. Through a selection of Polish literature, reading and analysis, to emphasize the factors of evolution and transformation of a country and its place among other countries. To give the necessary tools for the understanding of cultural and societal transformation.

Teaching methods and learning activities

A partly ex cathedra course illustrated by photos, Power Point presentations and documentary films; partly consisting of exercises on different literary forms. Guest lecturers are also included in the course. Virtual University materials and podcasts are used to facilitate communication and learning.

Contribution to the teaching profile

To develop critical thinking, to understand intertextuality, to master literary genres and their evolution and to acquire techniques of analysis and interpretation of texts. In coherence with the programme of the other courses, to better mark the progress of the students and also, through targeted exercises, the individual progress of each student.

Continuous assessment (homework, small assignments, assessed exercises). Taking into account the progress of each student.

In the second session, the final mark is composed of two marks: an oral test and a written assignment.

Mark calculation method (including weighting of intermediary marks)

The final score is the sum of all points.
