Course Content
Theoretical and practical introduction to grammatical topics complementing those taught in the first year of the Bachelor’s programme, together with their further in-depth study. Systematic grammar exercises, speaking and hearing exercises, accompanied by lexical and grammatical explanations, with a contrastive approach. The course is taught in German.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
To consolidate and deepen grammatical knowledge, refine and extend vocabulary, and further develop active language practice. Target level: B1 of the CEFR.

Theory and exercises, 3 hours per week. Active student participation is required. Summaries of lessons, exercises, and scans are available on UV.

Active participation in class, oral presentations (Referat), and written tests.
Written examination in January and in May/June (grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, etc.).
Mark calculation method (including weighting of intermediary marks)
The final grade is determined by:
- Q1: 50%
- 20%: continuous evaluation and oral presentation
- 30%: written examination (January)
- Q2: 50%
- 20%: oral presentation and continous evaluation
- 30%: written examination (May/June)
Students whose native language is German may, upon request the course instructor before the end of September to receive exercises adapted to their level in order to obtain the credits allocated for continuous assessment.
Each component of the course unit is compulsory and must be assessed. Students who do not participate in the tests and assignments throughout the year (continuous evaluation), or who fail that component, will be required to complete them during the autumn/september exam session. If no oral grades have been obtained during the year, an oral examination will also be required in the resit session. Students who do not attend the written examination, or who fail that component, will be required to retake the written examination in the resit session.
