The objective of this course is to learn to work on a concrete scientific subject and to learn to communicate the results.

Additional information

The General Study Regulations stipulate that the use of generative AI (ChatGPT or similar tools) is strictly prohibited for projects and assignments. For the present project, we will make the following exceptions:
— Generative AI may be used to improve spelling, grammar, and phrasing in submitted documents;
— Generative AI may be used to generate visual elements (drawings, logos) in order to make activities and documents more attractive;
— Generative AI may be used as coding assistance integrated into a development environment.

Any other use of generative AI, particularly for the content of the work, is therefore prohibited and will be considered an attempt at fraud and sanctioned accordingly.

The skills assessed include both discipline-specific skills (mastery of the scientific topic and implementation skills) and transferable skills (communication skills). These skills will be assessed through the following: the presentation given at the Printemps des Sciences or the workshop prepared for XMI (together with the related materials), the scientific report, and the end-of-year presentation.

Please note that, as this is a project, there is no second examination session.

Mark calculation method (including weighting of intermediary marks)

The 20 points of the final grade are distributed as follows:

  • Printemps des Sciences stand or XMI workshop: 12 points
    Ability to communicate scientific concepts to a non-specialist audience, mastery of the subject matter, and quality of the science communication materials produced.

  • Scientific report: 4 points
    Mastery of the subject matter and quality of the presentation.

  • Oral presentation: 4 points
    Mastery of the subject matter and quality of the presentation.

The course instructors reserve the right to invite any student to an additional oral interview in order to verify their personal mastery of the content of the submitted work, particularly where inconsistencies prevent the instructors from properly assessing the student’s level of mastery of the knowledge and skills targeted by the course.
