Internship in a research group of the department
 

These internships aim to introduce students to the practical aspects of research at the ULB physics department, through an immersion of several weeks within its research groups.

Courses requiring this course

The subject of the internship is agreed upon with the internship supervisor, chosen from among the members of the department's academic staff. The internship may, however, be co-supervised by a PhD student or post-doctoral researcher from the same group as the supervisor.

• The internship concludes with a written report which must be submitted simultaneously to the internship supervisor and the coordinators (via the UV). The report must follow the standards of research communication and serves as the basis for the final evaluation. The report is limited to a maximum of 30 pages; although appendices may be added beyond this limit. Jupyter notebooks or similar materials do not replace a written report and will not be accepted. A delay of up to 24h in submitting the report will result in a penalty; beyond 24h, the report will no longer be accepted and the internship will not be credited.
• The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) is allowed in the internship following the same rules as the Master Thesis (unless explicitly forbidden by the supervisor) and in accordance with Article 40 of the ULB's RGE. Students are requested to add a paragraph in their report devoted to any use of generative artificial intelligence tools in their work. This section must specify in detail the tools used, as well as the content produced with the help of these tools, in accordance with Article 40 of the ULB's RGE (Use of generative artificial intelligence tools).

Mark calculation method (including weighting of intermediary marks)

• The grade is assigned by the internship supervisor, in agreement with the two coordinators, and must be transmitted to them before the date of the oral presentation for the relevant session.
• An oral presentation will be held at the end of the session, during which each student will present to their peers, in a timed 5-minute talk, the subject of one of their internships (their choice), using at most 3 slides (title excluded). The final internship grade may be adjusted based on this exercise
