Course content
The “data acquisition” component focuses on the presentation and use of stimulation and data collection tools as they are used in the field of neuropsychology. More specifically, the theoretical course considers why and how data should be acquired, which tools should be used, and what should be taken into account before, during and after data acquisition. The practical sessions aim to provide students with the basics of Python programming and, more specifically, to teach them how to use PsychoPy in order to develop simple experimental paradigms in this working environment.
The “data analysis” component aims to strengthen students’ statistical training and introduce them to the use of appropriate software for this purpose. More specifically, the theoretical course considers how to process data, select a statistical test, use statistics from both frequentist and Bayesian perspectives, and analyse data collected in an experimental setting. The practical sessions focus on the use of R and JASP.
Objectives (and/or specific learning outcomes)
- Reflect on the factors involved in data acquisition in an experimental setting and on how to analyse the resulting data;
- Use PsychoPy independently to create a simple experimental paradigm;
- Using the same software, determine the appropriate options for acquiring an experimental dataset from among a range of possibilities;
- Use R and JASP to perform descriptive and inferential statistics.

- Students receive regular support through question-and-answer sessions.

Other
Each component of the course (theory, practical data acquisition, practical data analysis) is assessed on a separate date and according to its own specific arrangements. In accordance with Article 40 of the Academic Regulations (RGE), the use of generative AI is prohibited during assessment.
Mark calculation method (including weighting of intermediary marks)
To pass the course module (UE), you must meet the following two requirements:
• Achieve an overall average of at least 10/20 for all parts of the UE, calculated as the arithmetic mean of the three parts;
• Achieve at least 10/20 in each of the parts.
