Energy Transition Day: strengthening collaboration to accelerate the energy transition
On 15 January 2026, the Energy Transition Day brought together researchers, innovation professionals and institutional partners at the FARI Institute in Brussels. The event gathered representatives from ULB, VUB, Sibelga and Innoviris, with a shared ambition: turning academic–industry collaboration into concrete action for the energy transition.
The event was organised in the framework of the strategic cooperation agreement signed in June 2025 between our two universities and Sibelga, which marked the start of a long-term, structural cooperation in research, development, education and training to address the major challenges of the energy transition.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in insightful discussions around:
- Sibelga’s current and future research and innovation priorities;
- The research results, expertise and ongoing projects presented by ULB and VUB researchers during the day;
- The identification of shared thematic priorities and opportunities for high-impact collaboration, including joint research projects, laboratory visits and training initiatives.
The Energy Transition Day also offered participants the opportunity to discover the FARI Institute and its cutting-edge facilities, notably through visits to the AI Test & Experience Center and the Computer Augmented Virtual Environment (CAVE), highlighting the role of artificial intelligence and advanced digital tools in supporting the energy transition.
We thank the participants for their active engagement and the quality of exchanges. Special thanks go to Sibelga for its strategic commitment, to the ULB Knowledge Transfer Office and VUB TechTransfer for supporting collaboration between academia and industry, to the ULB and VUB researchers for sharing their expertise, to FARI for hosting the event, as well as to Innoviris for supporting research and innovation in Brussels.
Together, we are laying the foundations for durable, cross-institutional collaboration to accelerate the energy transition in Brussels and beyond.
