Procedure for work performed in isolation.

Basic principle: No work should be carried out alone in hazardous conditions (e.g. risk of falling from a height, exposure to chemical, biological, radioactive or cryogenic agents, working on live electrical equipment, etc.).

Article 54ter of the RGPT (Règlement Général pour la Protection du Travail) stipulates that (translation):

Every worker working in isolation must have access to means of raising the alarm appropriate to the circumstances.
No work to be carried out in hazardous conditions must be assigned to a worker working in isolation. The presence of another person capable of raising the alarm promptly is required.

In other situations (working late or in remote locations), the procedure to follow is as follows:

  • The head of department must provide written authorisation prior to the work being carried out. The staff member must keep a copy of this with them.
  • The head of department must also ensure that there is a telephone nearby so that the emergency number can be dialled if necessary:
    • "7" for the Solbosch, Plaine, Gosselies and Charleroi campuses;
    • "22" for Erasme campus;
    • "112" for all other campuses.
    The Security and Protection Service (SPS) dispatching center can be contacted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 02 650 26 14.
