Contenu du cours
The official course page for 27-28 can be found at VUB: Advanced materials
The Advanced Materials course focuses on the development and application of modern materials and innovative material concepts.
Current topics include:
- nanocomposites
- materials for (organic) solar cells
- self-healing materials.
For the different topics, two major story lines will unfold:
- How do the chemical structure of the material, the microstructure formed, and the processing of the material influence the final material properties?
- How can we study the materials, to get insight into the structure-processing-property relations and into the design of materials with a higher performance? Attention is paid to what is feasible in an industrial environment and how different techniques could be used for process monitoring, quality control, or R&D.
The course aims at giving the student a better understanding of advanced materials’ research in academia and industry and insight in recent developments in this field.
Objectifs (et/ou acquis d'apprentissages spécifiques)
The official course page for 27-28 can be found at VUB: Advanced materials
Specific to the course, the students are expected to be able to:- gain insight in new developments in advanced materials and materials technology,
- discuss these developments for the material classes encountered in the course,
- critically evaluate the prospects and threats of modern material developments,
- develop a research strategy for the development of innovative materials and their applications and a feasible path for its elaboration,
- select experimental techniques to study these materials and interprete the results obtained
- interact with specialists in industrial or academic material’s research.
