Multicultural discourses / Chaire sur le racisme « Stuart Hall »

This year, the course "Multicultural Discourses" will be linked to the new "Stuart Hall" Chair on Racism. This means that you will have six sessions during the first semester, taught by Laura Calabrese, and five sessions during the second semester, taught by a guest professor.

This year's guest professor will be Catherine Hall, Stuart Hall's widow and a historian of British imperialism. She will give five sessions during the first two weeks of March.

First semester: dates and topics

4: Identity and belonging

5: Racial agrarian capitalism

Learning objectives:

After reading the papers and the course manual, and participating in class debates, students should be able to:

1. Understand the origins of the concept of race
2. Understand the origins of racism and its continuities over time
3. Understand the different models for managing diversity

A B1 level in English is required to follow the course.

Attendance and assessment:

Attendance at the course is mandatory. If you are Corporate Communication student and cannot attend because of a mandatory internship, you will have to take an oral exam on top of the written exam. For students who attend the course, the written exam counts for 100% of the final grade.
