Contenu du cours
From academic year 2025-26, this course will be taught jointly with Adriana Sansao from University Federal of Rio de Jaineiro and explores new planning culture emerging in Europe and Latin America by focusing on alternatives to comprehensive top-down planning as it is taught and practice since the mid XXth century.
The course will question how communities in Europe and Latin America are challenging scientific and comprehensive conventional planning by experimenting alternative planning and urbanisme practices. The course will start by framing the scope of planning culture and later on dive into different alternative planning experiments: tactical urbanism, radical planning, agonistic planning, incremental planning, etc.

Méthodes d'enseignement et activités d'apprentissages
The course will consist of thematic weekly lectures. Alternatively lectures will be given by Geoffrey Grulois and members of LoUIsE Lab from ULB and from Adriana Sansao from UFRJ.
Students from each University, in groups of 4 (mixed PROURB and ULB), will have to prepare and present an analysis of a real case exemplifying the approaches presented during the course. They will have to use the bibliography discussed in the sessions. If possible, students should also go on site to get a more situated knowledge of the cases.
During the last session, the students will have the opportunity to present this analysis in a 20 minute presentation. The presentation should clearly problematize and reflect on the case study in relation to the bibliography.
