The Breast Cancer Translational Research Laboratory (BCTL) is based at the Institut Jules Bordet (Université Libre de Bruxelles), Belgium’s only comprehensive cancer centre. Our research group is internationally recognized for its contributions to breast cancer biology, genomics, and translational medicine.

We work at the forefront of cancer research, focusing on:
• Molecular profiling using NGS, spatial transcriptomics, and single-cell sequencing to study tumor heterogeneity, disease progression, and resistance;
• Tumor microenvironment characterization, including immune and stromal cell phenotyping;
• Multimodal data integration, combining genomic/transcriptomic, imaging, and clinical data to predict treatment response and outcomes;
• Participation in international clinical studies and translational research networks.

FULL-TIME ONE-YEAR DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP AT THE CENTRE DE RECHERCHE EN PHILOSOPHIE

The Centre de recherche en Philosophie (https://phi.phisoc.ulb.be) based at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Campus Solbosch, invites applications for a one-year PhD position (‘seed money’).
The research will be carried out in the context of the awarded EOS project ‘Responses to Newton’s Mathematical-Experimental Paradigm in 18th-Century Philosophy’ (RENEW18). More information on the EOS project, jointly led by Karin de Boer (KU Leuven), Steffen Ducheyne (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), and Arnaud Pelletier (Université libre de Bruxelles), can be found here: www.renew18.be
Prospective candidates are invited to propose their own project provided that it engages meaningfully with the scope of RENEW18 (developments and/or debates in eighteenth-century philosophy related to the impact of Newton’s mathematical-experimental paradigm). The subproject will be carried out under the supervision of Prof. Arnaud Pelletier.
In addition to conducting independent research, the selected applicant is expected to participate in the organization of common activities such as team meetings, talks, workshops, and conferences. The working language within the consortium is English; the PhD thesis can be written in French or English.
As this is a 12-month position (with the possibility of extension up to 15 months), the successful candidate will be required to apply for additional external funding (in particular from the FNRS) during this period.
The successful candidate will be employed at ULB under the standard conditions. S/He will be offered a one-year fellowship. The fellowship provides for training opportunities, social and health benefits, office space, and a research budget.

About the laboratory and environment

The research unit on kinase addiction and BruProMS (ULB/Erasme Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics Platform) are based at the IRIBHM J.E. Dumont, at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB).
Our laboratory focuses its research on protein kinase biology, proteomics, phosphoproteomics, with a particular expertise in cell cycle kinases (CDK4, Greatwall/MASTL) and their implication on cancer. The research group is associated with BruProMS, ULB's mass spectrometry and proteomics platform, and partner of the BRUXSOMICS project (FEDER Brussels), an inter-university ULB-VUB multi-omics platform using mass spectrometry.

Positions summary
We are seeking a motivated PhD student to undertake a doctoral project at the interface of chemical proteomics, mass spectrometry-based (phospho)proteomics, cell biology, and bioinformatics.
The candidate will work on a project aiming at developing the necessary tools to measure kinase activity profiles directly from clinical samples and to build a functional atlas of poorly characterized kinases, with the long-term ambition of enabling precision medicine by correlating tumor kinase activity with therapeutic response to kinase inhibitors.

Project description:

We have a position available for a PhD student in the group of “Inflammatory and Cell Death Signaling Group”, lead by Prof. AK Cardozo at the Signal Transduction and Metabolism Laboratory (https://www.stmlaboratory.com/inflammatory-and-cell-death-signalling-in-diabetes). The STML is located at the Faculty of Medicine, Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Brussels, Belgium. The ULB is one of the European leaders in the biomedical research and our laboratory has a highly dynamic research environment with teams dealing with the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases including type 1 (T1D) and type 2 (T2D) diabetes.
Our research is focused on the understanding of mechanisms leading to inflammation-mediated dysfunction and death of pancreatic β-cells in diabetes. Our strategy is to use genomics, proteomics and detailed signal transduction analysis in both in vitro and in vivo models of the disease. Our ultimate goal is to devise novel ways to prevent β-cell demise in diabetes.

The Analytical Platform of the Faculty of Pharmacy (ULB, APFP) is an analytical platform providing analytical solutions, especially through chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. The Platform is hosted by the RD3 Pharmacognosy, Bioanalysis and Drug Discovery research unit (RD3 PBM) and develops tools and methods for identifying and quantifying molecules of interest in therapeutics or biomarkers. The Signal Transduction and Metabolism Laboratory led by Dr Esteban Gurzov is seeking highly motivated post-doctoral researchers to develop novel methods to diagnose type 1 diabetes, and to explore the pathophysiological mechanisms contributing to autoimmune diabetes. The successful applicant will join the Laboratoire de Gastroentérologie Expérimental et Endotools/ULB Faculty of Medicine (www.stmlaboratoy.com), characterised by an impressive track record in research excellence.

Project description:

The project will take advantage of human iPSC, diabetes cell models, mouse models, pharmacological approaches and human specimens to determine the molecular mechanisms by which tyrosine phosphatases contribute to the development of autoimmune diabetes and to explore novel approaches for combating type 1 diabetes.
