ULB’s GEOSCIENCES Platform: A Gateway to Advanced Research in Earth and Environmental Sciences

Bringing together state-of-the-art tools and interdisciplinary know-how, the GEOSCIENCES platform at ULB is a newly accredited facility offering external organizations and researchers access to premier technologies in geochemistry, mineralogy, and geophysics. Designed to support both fundamental and applied research, its services have wide-ranging applications in fields such as volcanic risk analysis, environmental monitoring, public health, geotechnics, archaeology, and even biology.
 

A gateway to cutting-edge equipment

At the core of the platform are advanced mass spectrometry instruments (including ICP-OES, ICP-MS, HR-MC-ICP-MS, and CC-MC-ICP-MS), enabling precise analyses of major and trace elements as well as isotopic compositions of elements like Sr, Nd, Pb, Cu, Fe, and many more. The platform also offers high-resolution microscopic imaging and elemental analysis via a SEC SNE-4500M Plus with EDS, as well as cutting-edge geophysical tools — from geophones and hydrophones to fiber optic sensing systems.
