Contenu du cours
The internal market is of fundamental importance to the EU, which would not exist without it. So every student of EU law needs to know about it.
The course covers the scope and content of the 4 freedoms - and especially the free movement of goods - which form the internal market, and the exceptions to these freedoms.
Objectifs (et/ou acquis d'apprentissages spécifiques)
Acquisition of a thorough knowledge of the principles governing the internal market and the free movement of goods in particular. Students will be able to apply the internal market rules to real-life type of situations.
Pré-requis et Co-requis
Connaissances et compétences pré-requises ou co-requises
Students are expected to have at least passive knowledge of French, as certain documents may be circulated and certain teaching sessions may be held in this language.
Méthodes d'enseignement et activités d'apprentissages
All classes will take place physically in the Institut d'Etudes Européennes.
Socratic method. Students are strongly encouraged to be active in class. Since students from some countries have no experience of answering problems ( cas pratiques ) in exams, the last class will be devoted to a discussion of some problems posed in previous exams.
The moot is quite separate from the EU-wide moot in which some of the students take part. In this course, students have to prepare it in teams. An information session will be organised to assist the students in preparing the moot.
Références, bibliographie et lectures recommandées
Students are required to read all the judgments marked with an asterisk on the hand-outs. All the other required/optional reading materials (ie chapters of books, articles, etc) are posted on the "université virtuelle".
