Contenu du cours

At the start of the course, we will propose a (non-exhaustive) list of conflicts that have taken place between the start of the Cold War and the present day. Students will choose one of the conflicts from this list and work on it. They should highlight the social, political and economic dimensions of the chosen conflict. To this end, they will carry out detailed documentary and qualitative research. They will give an oral presentation and write a detailed, structured paper on the conflict.

Objectifs (et/ou acquis d'apprentissages spécifiques)

The aim of this course is to develop students' reading reflexes on different types of sources, in order to bring them out in an academic analysis.

Pré-requis et Co-requis

Connaissances et compétences pré-requises ou co-requises

Students are required to have taken HIST-D-202 in order to participate in this course.

Méthodes d'enseignement et activités d'apprentissages

The course is based on exercise sessions. Students are divided into groups. They are asked to research Cold War and post-Cold War conflicts. This research must be presented to the members of the group. Participants are assessed on their written work, presentations and participation.

Attendance is compulsory. If more than two sessions are missed without justification (medical certificate), students must take a written exam in the second session in addition to their coursework. The written exam will focus on Cold War and post-Cold War conflicts, and will be worth 50% of the final grade.

Research must among other be carried out in libraries.
